Dear Future Employer,
First, I want to thank you for reading this cover letter. I know that in times like these, the amount of resumes you receive on a daily basis must be exhausting, and the mere fact that I got you reading this far is certainly a good first step I must say.
When I began searching for a second job, I was baffled as to why I would not even receive a call back for positions I was very qualified for. It was only until I spoke with someone on the other end, someone who shares a job like yours which requires you to read letters and resumes like this very one for hours each day, did I really understand what the problem was.
You see, I'm already employed part-time and I have been openly admitting it! PLEASE don't stop reading YET! I know there are others out there with no jobs at all, that are absolutely begging you for a position, but let me explain. This part-time job doesn't cover my expenses. It doesn't offer me health insurance. It doesn't let me save. And it keeps me off those extended unemployment benefits these other applicants are current getting.
What I need to admit to you is that what I actually have is a FULL time job: professional hustler.
Three days a week I design websites for a non-profit, one day a month I bartend (illegally) at my friend's vintage clothing store sales, I work at a restaurant 2-3 days each week, I DJ various clubs and bars every couple of months, and do I ever freelance websites and graphic services on the side. Am I looking for more work? You bet I am.
Don't rule out us hustlers. When you need something done, we are who you need to call. No position, task, or obstacle scares me. Do I have a resume? No. Because I will do it all: DJ your wedding, wash your dog AND car, photograph your belongings to sell on eBay, fix your computer when it breaks, organize your junk drawer. No task is too big or too small. Just give me a call. And when your friends ask if you know someone who can __________, have them call me too.
